Strathnaver runs for some 17 miles, from Altnaharra, along Loch Naver, then north along the River Naver to Bettyhill. To guide you along the route, Strathnaver Trail leaflets are available at the Hotel; this leaflet relates to roadside markers and trails at 16 different historical sites. These sites range from 18th Century cleared settlements to the ruins at Grumbeg, whose burial ground commands dramatic views over the whole length of Loch Naver.
Elsewhere on the trail you can see sites where Pictish Brochs once stood on the shores of Loch Naver, a stone circle and the site of the Battle of Dalharrold, where the scots defeated the Norse in the 1100s.
