For lovers of the outdoor life there is truly an abundance of rarely seen birds and mammals in Sutherland. The list of those you might be lucky enough to spot includes: Red, Roe & Sika Deer, Wild Cat, Golden Eagle, Osprey, Perigrine Falcons, Ptarmigan, Grouse, Sea Otters, Wild Goats, Pine Marten, Grey Seals, Red Squirrels, amongst many others.
Flora
The shores of the lochs and hills around Altnaharra contain some very rare species of wild flowers, plants, ferns and grasses not found in other areas – a delight to botanist and rambler alike.
