Here at Altnaharra we firmly believe that there is only one way to see the Highlands; from a saddle. Of course this can mean one of two things – a horse or a cycle. If you want to look at our excellent horse riding options please refer to our horse riding section in the activities page, but for those who prefer a bit of pedal power, read on…
Diverse terrain or open roads? Mountain biker or road cyclist? It doesn’t matter, because we have it all. And whichever you decide to do, you can be sure of breath taking scenery and an invigorating and memorable experience.
At Altnaharra we welcome those who fancy a bit of recreational cycling, and we can provide a wide range of mountain bikes for different ages. But we also welcome those who are just passing through, maybe on their way to either Lands’ End or John O’ Groats, and can offer covered, secure storage for your cycles and rest and hospitality for the cyclist.
For the more serious mountain biker you will be pleased to know that the Highlands has been recognised by the IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) as one of the great (and award winning) biking destinations. They are not wrong. The Highlands offers an abundance of trails, forest and wilderness riding to suit all levels and abilities, while the low population up here ensures quiet and peaceful road cycling.
