Woodcock and mixed game shooting is an extremely popular sport in Scotland and people come from all over the world to try it out. Woodcock are the jewel in the crown of game shooting and pose an exciting challenge to the shooting enthusiast due to their fast movements. The Woodcock season usually begins on the 1st September and runs through to the end of January.
Driven – A team of beaters will drive the woodcock out towards your hunting team. Dogs will then be used to pick the birds up. Generally considered one of the best ways to experience woodcock shooting.
Pointing- The hunter will usually walk behind the dog in a wooded or suitably covered area and then shoot over the dog’s point.
